Ten things of thankful

This week was little better than last week, we saw Sophia's orthopedist and we have a date for the surgery: September 3rd. He said that the cast will be on for about 4 weeks, most likely the first few days she'll be in the hospital and Eric will be with me the whole time. The second week she should be able to go to school at least half day and we may increase the time she is there little by little. I can't wait to get this over with and have my baby use her walker again.

So here is this week's list:

Ten Things of Thankful

  1. Sophia's surgery: yes, you read right! Of course I don't want Sophia to go through that kind of procedure, but I know that her hip being dislocated is going to potentially cause her difficulty walking and could also cause pain down the road. So I am thankful that there's something we can do to help her walk the best she can.
  2. My award nomination for the Versatile Blogger: An awesome mom and blogger and new friend of mine, Joy from Icansaymama.blogspot.com nominated me for this award and I am so grateful! It is very encouraging!
  3. 4 weeks with the cast instead of 4 months: For some reason we thought the doctor had said 4 months when we first talked about the possibility of a surgery and the only thought of a bored, cranky 5 year old in a spica cast was driving me crazy. So 4 weeks doesn't sound too bad now.
  4. This bloghop: I think I said it before, but it really does help to sit down and look at your week and see the good things, even if your week was not that great focusing on the positive makes the negative seems a little less important. Thanks to the great people who created this bloghop and thank you for letting me participate every week.
  5. Friends: This week I posted a not so happy entry which you can see here. I got really nice comments from friends and family who visited the blog and also from friends and my husband who made me look at things from a different angle and that made me feel a lot better.
  6. Sophia's hair: See for yourself:

   7.   An end to what seemed like two week heat wave: I love summer but I also like being able to breathe    comfortably when I go outside, so the cool couple of days and the rain felt pretty good.
   8.   My parents: I am very lucky to have the parents I have. They are smart and very interesting. My              mother loves to read, her job is to read books and classify them, best job ever! You can talk about              anything with her, we have a really great relationship. My father is an intellectual, he is a stage actor and it      feels awesome to see him perform.
   9.   My driver's license:  When I moved to the USA I didn't know how to drive and for a while I depended    on my husband to bring me places. He taught me how to drive (very good teacher, by the way) and now I    have a car and go wherever I want, if Sophia is bored I can go to the mall, the park, my mother in law's        pool, whenever I feel like it.
   10.  My iPhone: I honestly don't know what I would do without my phone (how sad is that?), I use it for      everything, to check my email, to chat with my mom and friends, to text my husband, to check Facebook,    to take a hundred pictures of Sophia a day and sometimes I even use it to make phone calls!

Here is the evidence that Sophia is Eric's daughter:

  1. I love reading people's "thankful" lists. I often find those hard to write. I'm inspired when I read other's.

    1. Yeah, some weeks I struggle to start but then I realize that it's not as bad as it seems.

  2. Those ten are awesome! Natalia! Sophia's hair is beautiful, like Sophia herself. My hubby has full, thick, wavy hair; unfortunately none of the girls has inherited his hair. Also love the picture of Daddy and daughter, so special!!

I see your pain with the surgery, but totally agree that you need to keep the long-term result in mind, and if some pain and discomfort now will prevent her having chronic pain later, it's worth it.

    Have a wonderful weekend, Natalia!

    1. Thank you so much Stephanie! I don't know where she got that beautiful hair from, mine in very frizzy not at all like hers. I want her hair!!! =)
      It is worth it right?

You have a great weekend too.

  3. Your Mum has the MOST AMAZING JOB EVER! Wow! How'd she land that gig?

I'm glad Sophia's surgery is sorted out, but it sounds like a daunting prospect. I'm glad you have such a sensible attitude towards it (and yes - four weeks when you've been thinking about four months is an easily manageable timescale!)

Her HAIR! So, so beautiful. I'm assuming she got it from you, as the photo of Eric shows no curliness at all :)

Thank you for joining in with your wonderful list :)

    1. Ha ha, I know!!! she has always worked in a library and she reads and reads and reads and she get paid for reading!!
Yeah, I just want to get it over with and get all the benefits from doing it.
Unfortunately she didn't get that gorgeous hair from me, I have to spend 30 minutes with a flat iron and then with a curler to get something similar to those beautiful locks. =(

  4. I'm glad you sorted her surgery out. I agree with the previous poster- 4 weeks is nothing compared to 4 months. My daughter will have surgery in September which I dread. The doctor told me the surgery will prevent a life time of hip pain and discomfort.

Sophia's hair is so pretty. How did you manage to do it?

    1. Thank you Thara, does your daughter have hip dysplasia?

Honestly I don't do anything to keep Sophia's that pretty, The only thing is I use a shampoo with chamomile to keep the color vibrant.

  5. What a great list! Glad the surgery is scheduled...obviously you don't want her to have to have the surgery but yes the bright side is 4 WEEKS vs 4 MONTHS. Thankful you can see the bright side of it.

And I want to know the same thing Lizzi asked...how did your mom land that job? That.sounds.awesome!

And yes, Sophia's hair is gorgeous...I only have boys, which is probably a good thing because even if I had a girl, I know her hair would not look like that.

Driver's license...something I have always taken for granted. Thanks for the reminder that I SHOULD be thankful for it. :)

Thanks so much for sharing your list...have a fabulous day!

    1. I gotta find the good things in life, otherwise I'd go crazy thinking about the negative all the time.
I know! And she gets paid for reading! Isn't it crazy??
I want he hair sooo bad!
      Thank you for reading =)

  6. very good list.

(to echo Stephanie above), this week/weekend has been high-stress work issues, hair-greying stuff, but seeing not only your individual 10 Things, but to hear your tone, the gratitude... totally takes a lot of the stress away.

(It may sound weird...but I am grateful to be a part of this group and have the privilege to read and appreciate everyone else's contributions.)

    1. It doesn't sound weird at all, in fact I think the fact that I get to participate and read all these wonderful lists should be on my list every week.
      Thank you so much Clark!

  8. Hi will have you on my prayer list on September 3rd. I know it does not even compare but my little girl is going to get fitted for her braces Wednesday. She did have her appendix removed on Labor Day 2011. Seems like yesterday. Sophia's hair is beautiful. Glad to meet you on the thankful weekend hop.

    1. Thank you Kristi, I can't wait to get it over with! She has has so many surgeries already, and she usually spends some time at the ICU after, but the benefits are bigger than the risk so... thank you again.

  11. I totally get being thankful for surgery. When Boo had her spinal surgery I was a wreck but so thankful that not only did she have the top doc, that she was young enough not to remember it!

    1. I hear you Kerri, Sophia has had too many surgeries already and it doesn't get easier, but the benefits are bigger than the risks. Glad that your daughter doesn't remember going through that!

  12. Her hair!!! Oh My Gee, what I wouldn't give for hair like that.
#4 - totally agree and it's always nice to get supportive comments like you mentioned in #5.
A driver's license is something so many of us take for granted but it's so hard to be without one!
I am pretty dependent on my iPhone as well. I feel lost without it!
